Green Straw Culture – (Monterey, CA)

My mind is blown.  Having unsuccessfully looked for a local cafe (which appears to no longer exist), Chris and I stepped into the neighboring Starbucks for some quiet time of blogging and journaling.  It took us two hours of sitting quietly, sipping our respective caffeinated beverages among countless other customers sitting with their computers, smartphone, ipads, by themselves or with a partner, inside and outside, one girl with her feet tucked up underneath her on the plush leather easy chair, coming and going, tens of twenties of people, before we even realized:

TODAY is the FIRST day this Starbucks has EVER been open.

Not one of these people had ever been in here before, and yet every single person seemed completely at home, completely comfortable in this brand-new locale.

Looking at all the people that I previously had assumed were regulars here, I feel scared for our cookie-cutter-country with people transposed from one big box location to the next without even noticing.

great observation! What a sad thought that we have become so predictable and “borg”-ess in our existence. I will hope we (society) will change for the better!!
