Where We Are in 30 Seconds! – (Grand Tetons National Park)

Grand Tetons National Park is only 8 miles south of Yellowstone National Park, and thus an obvious ‘two-for-one’ deal while traveling through Wyoming.  Dubbed the “active teenagers” of the Rocky Mountains, the Tetons Range are is a ‘mere’ 9 million years old – still geologically young, restless, and…. pointy.  (<— Official Term.)

The Grand Tetons park is much smaller in acreage, yet incredibly stunning. There is something about being able to visually take in an entire mountain range in one gaze that inspires the mind and humbles the spirit. Not surprisingly Ansel Adams, John Muir, and Mormon pioneers found beauty in the landscapes.

While much of the park is viewable from the road, and many pastures, Mormon barns, and  homesteads still mark the landscape, it was still enjoyable to drive casually south, stopping to take some pictures and admire some grazing wildlife before heading into the bustling tourist town of Jackson.

did you guys hike the tetons? i had this really deluded idea that i could make it to a summit. not THE summit of grand teton, but A summit, and have an incredible view of wyoming. i hiked 14 miles, was gone all day (ran out of water & food), and made it like half way up one of those mountains…. when i got back i was nearly collapsing from exhaustion, and a road worker gave me a ride back to my car, where i ate an entire tub of peanut butter. ha!
